Hybridizing discrete- and continuous-time models for batch sizing and scheduling problems

چکیده
This paper proposes a new hybrid technique called ”partial parameter uniformization” to hybrid discreteand continuous-time models for batch sizing and scheduling problems. The uniformization method simpli...es a problem by ignoring the di¤erent values of some parameters that the problem can take, which can facilitate the solution of some complex combinatorial optimization problems. Good feasible solutions can then be obtained at relatively low computational cost for the Westenberger and Kallrath Benchmark problems, as well as for the newer problems of Blömer and Günther. Keyword: batch, machine, scheduling, integer programming, hybrid, continuous-time, discrete-time.

DISCRETE AND CONTINUOUS SIZING OPTIMIZATION OF LARGE-SCALE TRUSS STRUCTURES USING DE-MEDT ALGORITHM
Design optimization of structures with discrete and continuous search spaces is a complex optimization problem with lots of local optima. Metaheuristic optimization algorithms, due to not requiring gradient information of the objective function, are efficient tools for solving these problems at a reasonable computational time. In this paper, the Doppler Effect-Mean Euclidian Distance Threshold ...
متن کاملDISCRETE SIZE AND DISCRETE-CONTINUOUS CONFIGURATION OPTIMIZATION METHODS FOR TRUSS STRUCTURES USING THE HARMONY SEARCH ALGORITHM
Many methods have been developed for structural size and configuration optimization in which cross-sectional areas are usually assumed to be continuous. In most practical structural engineering design problems, however, the design variables are discrete. This paper proposes two efficient structural optimization methods based on the harmony search (HS) heuristic algorithm that treat both discret...
متن کاملA bi-objective model for a scheduling problem of unrelated parallel batch processing machines with fuzzy parameters by two fuzzy multi-objective meta-heuristics
This paper considers a bi-objective model for a scheduling problem of unrelated parallel batch processing machines to minimize the makespan and maximum tardiness, simultaneously. Each job has a specific size and the data corresponding to its ready time, due date and processing time-dependent machine are uncertain and determined by trapezoidal fuzzy numbers. Each machine has a specific capacity,...
متن کاملThe Finite Horizon Economic Lot Scheduling in Flexible Flow Lines
This paper addresses the common cycle multi-product lot-scheduling problem in flexible flow lines (FFL) where the product demands are deterministic and constant over a finite planning horizon. Objective is minimizing the sum of setup costs, work-in-process and final products inventory holding costs per time unite while satisfying the demands without backlogging. This problem consists of a combi...
متن کاملState-of-the Art in Short-Term, Medium-Term, and Reactive Scheduling for Large-Scale Batch and Continuous Processes
Scheduling is a decision making process to determine when, where, how to produce a set of products given requirements in a specific time horizon, a set of limited resources, and processing recipes. The research area of batch and continuous process scheduling has received great attention from both the academia and the industry in the past two decades. This is motivated by the increasing pressure...
